Seattle Veterinary Outreach is dedicated to human and animal welfare, which are firmly intertwined. We believe that improving the health of a pet can have a direct and positive impact on the life of their owner. We can’t do this work without your support.
While our greatest need is for volunteers with veterinary skills, we also rely on people who can help make our mobile clinics run smoothly and efficiently. We’re looking for volunteers to assist with client intake, distribute pet resources, provide social service referrals, take photos, and more. Simply schedule a time to talk with our Volunteer Manager to indicate your interest, and let’s talk! There’s a role for everyone who wants to make a difference—join us today!
Volunteers at Seattle Veterinary Outreach should have a sincere passion for serving under-resourced communities and their pets. We value compassion, empathy, and a strong commitment to making a difference in the lives of those we help.
Outreach clinics operate throughout King and Snohomish county every Wednesday and Friday from 9 AM to 3 PM, as well as the second Saturday of each month, rain or shine. We also offer work-from-home projects and daytime volunteer opportunities at our main storage location. Please see below for more details on each volunteer position!
Thank you for your interest in becoming a volunteer with Seattle Veterinary Outreach (SVO)! We’re excited to welcome new volunteers and guide you through our onboarding process. Here’s what you can expect as you start your journey with us:
To begin, please schedule a 30-minute interest call with Jenny Turner, our Community Volunteer Manager. Use this Calendly link to choose a convenient time for the call. During this conversation, we’ll discuss your interest in volunteering with SVO, share details about our mission, and explore the various volunteer opportunities available.
After you complete the interest call, please fill out our volunteer application form. This helps us understand your interests and skills, ensuring we match you with opportunities that best fit your preferences.
Once you submit the volunteer application, you’re welcome to visit our clinics. This is a great opportunity to observe our operations and shadow current volunteers. It will give you a firsthand look at how we work and help you feel more comfortable when you start your role.
Based on the volunteer roles that interest you, we’ll refer you to our training sessions. These trainings are conducted once a month and are essential for getting you up to speed with your chosen role. We ask that you complete the training within 30 days of starting as a volunteer to ensure you’re fully prepared for your responsibilities.
If you have any questions about the onboarding process, please feel free to contact Zarah directly at [email protected].
We’re thrilled to have you join our team and look forward to working with you to make a positive impact. Thank you for your enthusiasm and commitment to supporting SVO.
We have many volunteer opportunities for people who love people and pets, working at our clinics or behind the scenes, or both.

Intake volunteers welcome clients and their pets, provide information, and offer general assistance at the clinic. They help check in clients and their pets, ensuring everything runs smoothly as our vet team takes over.
After the exam and procedures, volunteers assist clients with the checkout process, including handling payments if services are charged. They also ensure clients leave with all necessary information and items.
Resource volunteers play a vital role in supporting clients by distributing free pet food, supplies, and ID tags. They connect with each community member and their pets, offering personalized assistance to help them select the items that best meet their needs.
The role also involves some physical tasks, such as setting up and taking down tents, tables, and supply bins.
Volunteer translators play a key role in assisting our Spanish-speaking clients by providing translation services throughout their visit. They may help translate during the intake process, vet exams, or at the resources station, ensuring clear communication and a positive experience for all clients.
Volunteer photographers help capture the vibrant life of our clinic by taking photos of clients, their pets, and interactions with the vet team or resource volunteers.
They document various aspects of the clinic to showcase the work we do and the care we provide. It is important to note that only clients who have signed the consent form are eligible to have their photos taken. Clients with a colored tag are not to be photographed, as they have not given consent.
Vet team volunteers are skilled DVMs, LVTs, and VAs who support our clinic with their expertise. We require at least one year of experience in the veterinary field for these roles.
Volunteers assist with various tasks, contributing their knowledge and skills to ensure high-quality care for our clients and their pets.
In this remote opportunity, volunteers assist with transferring client records from one database to another, all from the convenience of their own laptops. We will provide login credentials for access to the necessary systems.
Before starting, volunteers will receive comprehensive training and must sign a confidentiality agreement to ensure client data security. This flexible role allows volunteers to contribute to SVO’s mission at their own pace.

Volunteers are needed to help maintain our inventory at our storage building in Edmonds. Responsibilities include organizing items such as pet food, separating harnesses and leashes by size, assembling nail trimming kits, and other related tasks.
We ask volunteers to commit to at least once a week, if possible, to ensure our operations are efficient and effective. This role offers a hands-on opportunity to make a tangible impact in our community and support our mission.
Join us at SVO as we work to expand access to veterinary care and advocate for more pet-friendly shelters and housing through legislative efforts. Some more text.
